Expressing your love to your family and your community
You protect and care for the people you love every day. Maybe you demonstrate your love by watching over your grandkids for a weekend, or volunteering with your favourite charity. There are so many ways you demonstrate kindness on a daily basis. From a donation to your local hospital, to a favour or act of kindness to your neighbour, but have you thought about how you can show your love even beyond your own lifetime?
Currently more than 50 per cent of Canadians don’t have a legal Will.
What does this mean?
When you die without a Will, your estate is distributed by the government – and those that matter most to you may not benefit. This process can leave your family feeling strapped for cash or frustrated. Your Will helps ensure those you love – your spouse, children and family – are taken care of.
A Planned Gift, such as a gift in your Will, a gift of life insurance or property, provide real and lasting impact for your community. Your donation will leave a footprint of your love after you’re gone and continue the generosity and kindness you demonstrated during your lifetime.
“Death is a terrible thing, but it’s amazing when something good can come out of it for those left behind. I know when I’m gone my gift will have an impact on the healthcare services in my community, leaving a lasting legacy.”
Nancy Birtch, Partner, KPMG LLP.
Leaving a gift to a charity in your Will carries your values into the future. Not only are you able to support the charities you care most about during your lifetime, but your family benefits from the income-tax credit upon death.
Discussing your Will isn’t exciting or romantic, but leaving a valid, up to date Will is possibly the most loving thing you can do for those you leave behind.
In the last 16 years, the NBRHC Foundation has received over $1 million dollars through Wills, providing advanced levels of care to you, your loved ones.

The Legacy Society is an honorary club composed of donors who have made provision for a future gift to the Health Centre through a gift in their Will, life insurance policy, annuity or trust arrangement.
The Legacy Society gives us the opportunity to extend our warm appreciation to those individuals who notify us of their thoughtful gift intentions, during their lifetime. Other than notifying us, there are no obligations or fees to becoming a member of the Legacy Society.
When these gifts are realized, the name of the estate or donor is listed in the appropriate category on the main donor wall.
