The Seniors’ Mental Health In-patient service consists of two units for patient’s whose condition is complicated by behavioural and psychological symptoms, and/or medical comorbidities that exceed the capacity of the community, general hospital, complex continuing care and long-term care system.

An interdisciplinary team focus is utilized to address the causes of the responsive behaviours through a holistic approach employing best practices in the use of environmental, behavioural and pharmacological interventions.  The goal is to facilitate change and improvement through activities that:

    • Improve the patient’s overall quality of life by enhancing/retaining patient abilities;
    • Promote patient, family and care partner engagement;
    • Provide learning opportunities for increased community capacity;
    • Successfully transition the patient to the most appropriate community discharge destination.

Oak Lodge- Regional Dementia Care Unit  – Sudbury Kirkwood Campus – 18 beds

  • Provides comprehensive specialized assessment and treatment of older adults (usually >65 years old) and/or adults with an age-related dementia
  •  Examples include:
    • Alzheimer’s disease
    • Vascular dementia
    • Mixed dementia
    • Frontotemporal dementia
    • Lewy Body dementia
